A Win for District 3: 2929 S. Hampton Road Sold to Developer Who Shares Our Community Vision

A Message from Councilman Gracey

This past week marked a significant moment for our community and for the City of Dallas. The 2929 S. Hampton Road property has been successfully sold to Monte Anderson, a developer committed to the mixed-use vision our community created together.

This is more than a real estate transaction. This is proof that when government truly listens, better solutions emerge.

How We Got Here

In 2022, the City purchased the 2929 S. Hampton Road property, a former hospital on 14 acres, for $6.5 million with plans to convert it to permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. With little to no community engagement before the purchase, the plan faced resistance from the start. By 2023 the project had stalled and the community was rightfully frustrated.

When Councilman Gracey was newly elected he faced a choice: defend the plan or listen authentically. He chose to listen.

Through four community meetings, 195 surveys, and bilingual engagement, residents made their voices clear. The community expressed support for helping people experiencing homelessness (82%) while also making clear that this location was not optimal and that District 3 deserved the kind of economic development investment the neighborhood had been asking for over decades. A professional market analysis confirmed what residents already knew.

What changed:

From: Announce → Defend → Battle → Damage Trust

To: Acknowledge → Listen → Analyze → Partner → Build Trust

What This Means for District 3

This sale proves that District 3 is ready for quality economic development. It took time, but we did it together: the residents, the Councilmember, other elected officials, city staff, and a developer who truly believed in the community vision.

Because we engaged authentically, we did not become obstacles. We became partners. Because we listened, we found better solutions. Because we centered equity, everyone benefited.

Thank You, District 3

This success belongs to the residents who completed surveys, attended community meetings, and made their voices impossible to ignore. To the District 3 and 4 neighborhood associations, Commissioner Elba Garcia, city staff, council colleagues, and Monte Anderson and his development team: thank you for believing in what this community could become.

The future of District 3 has never looked brighter. As this project moves forward, Councilman Gracey will continue to keep residents informed every step of the way. Because the residents shaped this vision, the residents deserve to guide its implementation.

This is YOUR neighborhood. And it is your time. #OURDISTRICTOURFUTURE
